What a difference a year makes, huh? That’s what I said to myself on my walk home after celebrating the ball drop at the Dominico's. Just 365 days ago, I was miserable, watching 2007 descent like the sun at dusk. Tonight, I found myself in much more appreciative company enjoying ourselves and reminiscing about New Year’s past.

2008 proved to be a groundbreaking year for myself, personally and professionally, despite the fact that I’m not a Celtic or Barak Obama. Professionally, Soul Sister Photography & Consulting had the most successful year to date! I photographed a total of four weddings, launched two blogs, and added new musicians to the Soul Sister roster of talent. Not too shabby for a one-woman company with only business cards for advertisement!

2009 will bring a continuance of my evolution in a different direction and difficult choices have begun to present themselves already…one of which I will discuss now. I have made a New Year’s resolution to enter graduate school and pursue my M.B.A. My focus will be solely on the advancement of my career and my education. I have to let go of things that have taken up my time in order to make room for new challenges. With that said, I would like to announce the temporary pause of Soul Sister Photography and Consulting as a business. Of course, I will always photograph as it is part of my existence, but the idea of running a business while getting my master’s in it is too daunting…even for this wonder woman. I started Soul Sister five years ago with business cards I bought at Staples for 50 cents. The company ran solely on word of mouth, references, and recommendations. It was that aspect of the company that I was the most proud of. I’m happy to say that it will be placed on hold the same way it was started while other projects exercise my creativity.

As I have said in previous blogs, I love a new beginning. Whether it’s my birthday or January 1st, I love the idea of taking inventory and starting over. However, the key is to recognize and own it. The way I see it…2008 showed me what I could do without, while 2009 is showing me what I can’t live without. I hope 2009 does the same for you!

Cheers,
CKSO’K
